Out With the Old, In With the New: Non-Traditional Golf Event Ideas to Make Your Event Stand Out

Whether you’re playing in a charity golf event, corporate golf event, or just an event with a big group of friends, golf events tend to all look the same. Does this event sound familiar?

  • 4-man Scramble
  • Various Skill Prizes (closest to the pin, long drive, longest putt)
  • Players can buy mulligans
  • On course contests like beat the pro or hole in one prize

If you’ve played in more than a handful of golf events, all of the above aspects are pretty much expected and well, let’s be honest, have gotten boring.

Here are few non-traditional ideas for your next event that can break up the monotony of traditional events and make the event more fun and memorable.

Replace Traditional Mulligans

Mulligans are great in concept. They can generate significant revenue for the event and give teams a chance to score better which results in more fun. But let’s be honest, mulligans are pretty boring and have no guarantee of actually helping the team.

Instead of selling the traditional mulligans, you can take this concept to the next level and provide golfers with more interactive and strategic options to help them score better. Fore! Keeps Card Packs contain various actions that the team can perform to give them an advantage throughout the round. Actions like throwing the ball, teeing it up from anywhere, or moving up to the next tee box are guaranteed to add a fun twist to the event.

Let’s say a team hits a great second shot on a par 5 but it ends up in a greenside bunker. Instead of having to pick a different shot or trying an unsuccessful mulligan, they can use the Dominant Arm Throw card to throw it out of the bunker close to the hole without taking a stroke. Now they are putting for eagle! These cards will encourage strategy, team camaraderie, and will make the round a lot more fun!

Replace Closest to the Pin with a Random Club Challenge

Most golf events tend to have several closest to the pin challenges on par 3s. While these can be fun, the vast majority of participants have no chance to win. Instead of the traditional closest to the pin, a Random Club Challenge can add a fun twist to the hole that will make for some very memorable shots.

Players roll the Random Club Dice and must use whatever club they land on for their tee shot. Imagine trying to hit a driver into a 100 yard par 3. Prizes can be awarded for hitting the green or you can sell ‘mulligans’ where players can get another chance but have to roll the dice again. This fun challenge levels the playing field and adds a fun and challenging element to the hole.

Break up the Monotony of a Scramble with Fun Hole Challenges

Most golf events are in a scramble format. This format creates a fun team atmosphere and reduces the pressure of a traditional round of golf. But even scrambles can get boring, especially when a team is only using shots from 1 or 2 of the best players.

Fore-Mat tee signs make each hole a fun and unique challenge. For example, the ‘Relay Throw’ allows the teammates to throw the ball to another teammate and if caught, can be thrown to the next teammate until the ball is dropped or the last player throws it. In another example, ‘One Club’, the team must select one club to play the entire hole with until reaching the green.

Fore!-Mat tee signs present fun and strategic challenges that will make your event stand out from the rest!

Add a Wheel of Fore! Cards Hole

The Wheel Of Fore! Cards is a 14 space spin wheel with each space containing a helpful action that can be used by all members of the team on the hole. When a group gets to the tee box of a hole, they get a chance to spin the wheel and use whatever space they land on to help them.

Let’s say a group is on a par 5 and they land on the ‘Tee Up’ space. This means they can tee the ball up at any point in the hole. After the drive, they choose to tee the ball up so that they can hit drivers and reach the green in two. Now they have a chance for an eagle!

Alternatively, the group lands on the ‘Putt Pass’ card. When they get to the green the team can attempt a Putt Pass by having all players hit the putt while it is still moving with the last player trying to make the putt. All of the sudden, a 30 footer seems very makeable!

The Wheel of Fore! Cards adds fun and strategy to a hole and gives teams a chance to make an eagle (or better)! The event can ask teams to ‘pay’ or ‘donate’ for a spin and even charge for second or third spins if they want to try for something better. The center piece of the wheel can also be customized for an additional sponsorship opportunity!

The Wheel of Fore! Cards gives event planners an opportunity to drive more revenue and adds a fun twist to the hole!

Hosting the same old event year after year can result in a decline in both players and revenue. These ideas are sure to create a memorable experience and keep players coming back next year.
